Pillsbury United CommunitiesIn the United States, childcare services generate over $43.5 billion in revenue per year and are growing at an annual rate of 7%. In Hennepin County, 77% of family populations are using childcare services. The Pillsbury United Communities’ Daycare business is integral to the core services it provides to inner-city families yet it struggles year-to-year financially and operationally. Creation in Common performed an intensive Operational analysis (inclusive of staff and client interviews and focus groups) to determine the organization’s unique market position: “Lifting up the family by helping to raise the child” stresses the organization’s ability to offer low-cost Day Care as part of a suite of services for the whole family. Pillsbury United Communities’ Day Care operation is the low-cost leader in the city; connecting it to the larger organization’s social service components gives it an advantage over its competition.
